- If you are a local team, meet me Sunday (Feb 28st) at 5:00pm in the Bank of America parking lot at the SE corner of Eagle Ranch Road and Coors. (On Coors just south of Paseo del Norte) If you need to leave a post dated check (for no later than March 10th), you can do so at that time.
- Use the online payment option on the USSSA national web site - the online payment will total $440.00
Email me if you will be having trouble meeting this deadline so I know not to give your spot away and you are still working on the payment.
USSSA Team Registration - All teams must be USSSA registered for the 2010 USSSA year. A few of the teams listed haven't registered with USSSA yet and until they are registered the national web site won't let me put them in the bracket. Please take care of that ASAP. The registration will be good through July 31st of this year and you won't have to do that again until August 1st
ROSTER REQUIREMENTS – All teams must have a roster completed on their team’s webpage at www.usssa.com prior to March 4th. After that time I will be drawing the brackets for the tournament. There were a couple of teams that had not loaded their roster as of the date of this email. Please be aware that I cannot pull the team into the bracket until a minimum of 9 players are listed on the roster. Any team that fails to enter the roster can be removed from the bracket and replaced with a team on the waiting list.
BIRTH CERTIFICATES – At the managers meeting on March 12h, each team will be required to submit photo copies (not originals) of the members of the team. If you can't make the managers meeting please present those birth certificates prior to your first game at the tournament headquarters
HOST HOTELS and MAPS – The overall host hotel for the tournament is the Los Lunas Inns & Suites – 505-865-5100. On our local web site is a list of the hotels contracted for this event. Please visit this link and be sure to request the St. Patrick's USSSA Baseball NIT rate when contacting the hotels.
BRACKETS (unofficial)– Will be emailed out no later than Sunday March 7th at around 8PM (you will be automatically emailed by the national USSSA web site when they are ready). Please note – the USSSA system doesn't have the ability of posting a consolation bracket, only the championship bracket will show online. Official brackets will be distributed at the managers meeting. I attempt to provide every out of town team as late a start on Saturday as possible but if you teams participation in the event is contingent upon having a pm 1st game on Saturday you need to let me know so I can remove you from the bracket if I am unable to accommodate the request.
The projected formats and breakdown for each division -
10u – 7 teams (at this time - 2 more possible) – 2 pool games and a single elimination championship bracket for all teams - 5 games possible. With only one AAA team in this division (at this time) all teams will be combined into one bracket.
11u – 8 teams (at this time - 1 more possible) – 2 pool games and single elimination championship bracket for all teams - 5 games possible. All teams are either AAA or AA in this division (at this time) so all teams will be combined into one bracket.
12u – 13 teams (at this time - 2 more possible) – With one Major team, three AAA teams and nine AA teams the AAA and Major teams will be mixed into the pools so teams can play teams they don't normally play. Once the pool play is over the AAA and Major teams will be separated from the AA teams into two single elimination brackets. Four possible games for the AAA/Major teams and six possible games for the AA teams.
13u -11 teams – 2 pool games for each team. With five AAA teams and six AA teams the AAA teams will be mixed into the pools so teams can play teams they don't normally play. Once the pool play is over the AAA teams will be separated from the AA teams into two single elimination brackets. Five possible games for the AAA teams and five possible games for the AA teams.
14u – 6 teams (at this time - 2 more possible) – 2 pool games for each team and a single elimination bracket for all teams - 5 games possible. With one AAA team and one Major team in this division (at this time) all teams will be combined into one bracket.
BASEBALLS - Teams will provide their own game balls for the tournament. The baseballs must be USSSA stamped. I'll have leather USSSA baseballs at the tournament if you need to purchase them.
MANAGERS MEETING – Do not forget the managers meeting on Friday March 12th – 7PM at the Los Lunas Inns & Suites - 1711 West Main St in Los Lunas. Please have one representative from your team in attendance – remember this is a World Championship Qualifier and it is important to have all participants on the same page regarding rules and conditions of participation.
TOURNAMENT RULES – The tournament rules will be directly from the USSSA rule book. There will not be any local rules. We will pattern the tournament rules after the accepted and standard rules employed by the NM State USSSA Office. The official tournament rules will be emailed out along with the brackets
FACILITIES - Initially this event was scheduled for Rio Rancho but field availability and cost mandated the event be moved to Los Lunas and Belen. So, if you made hotel reservations in Rio Rancho or west Albuquerque you might want to re-think that and move your hotel reservations. As of this moment the field breakdowns for the different age divisions are:
10u – Enchantment and Eagle complex's
11u – Eagle complex
12u – Enchantment and Eagle complex's
13u – Los Lunas Sports Complex & Fernandez field
14u – Los Lunas / Belen fields
I want to assure all the teams that every attempt has been made to acquire fields in the closest proximity to each other but as most of the teams from the central NM area are aware we are very facilities “challenged”. With the limited facility resources at the disposal of the tournament there are a couple of fields whose base distances may not be “by the book”. The NM USSSA State Director’s office is aware of the situation and realizes that every attempt to modify the bases and pitching distances to mirror the rule book has been made. While this is not the desired situation, the teams involved will be playing one the same field during those games and no team gains an advantage.
MAPS – Field locations will be posted on the local web site – www.abqusssa.com after March 1st.
TOURNAMENT RULES – The foundation of the tournament rules will be directly from the USSSA rule book. We will pattern the tournament rules after the accepted and standard rules employed by the NM State USSSA Office. The official tournament rules will be emailed out along with the brackets. Additional clarification and explanation will be done at the managers meeting. Overall USSSA rules can be found and downloaded from the USSSA web site at
AWARDS – The awards breakdown for the different divisions are as follows.
Divisions with less than 8 teams in the single elimination bracket -
1st, 2nd, and 3rd* place team trophies
Individual awards for 1st place (Bat Bags or comparable awards)
10 All Tournament Awards (5 to 1st place team, 3-2nd place, 2-3rd place) -
1-MVP Award
Divisions with 8 or more teams in the single elimination bracket -
1st, 2nd, 3rd* and 4th* place team trophies
Individual awards for 1st and 2nd place team members (Bat Bags or comparable)
10 All Tournament Awards (5 to 1st place team, 3-2nd place, 2-3rd place) -
1-MVP Award (to member of 1st place team) –
* 3rd and 4th place team trophies will be awarded to the team (in the elimination bracket) that advances to the latest game number of the elimination bracket will be placed ahead of the team eliminated in the earlier game number unless the teams played each other in Pool Play, in which case the winner of the pool play game will be placed ahead of the loser of that pool game.
Thank you again for your support of our youth and USSSA Baseball - I look forward to a very exciting and rewarding tournament. See you at the managers meeting and email me if you have any questions.
